Spider-Man 4 is getting a former Marvel director in the chair in Destin Daniel Cretton.

The director behind Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is making a move to Sony for Spider-Man 4.

The Hollywood Reporter was first on the news that Cretton would take over the reigns of the series from Jon Watts. The new Spider-Man 4 stars Tom Holland and is a co-production between Sony and Marvel. The Tom Holland Spider-Man movies have been among the most profitable and storied for both Marvel and Sony. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are writing the script. Marvel leader Kevin Feige and former Sony head Amy Pascal are producing the film.

Sources say that Spider-Man 4 is going full-steam ahead, shooting early next year. It follows up the massively popular and successful Spider-Man: No Way Home. That film saw the entire world forget that Peter Parker was Spider-Man, including those who are closest to him like MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon).

Cretton was previously picked to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before that film underwent massive changes and turned into Avengers: Doomsday. He also worked on the upcoming Disney+ series for Marvel, Wonder Man. That series is in post-production and stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as a stuntman that gets superpowers. He is also attached to direct a live-action version of Naruto and a sequel to Shang-Chi.

This is a developing story and we’ll keep you updated as we get more news.
